Learn a new exciting drum solo choreography, plus get insights into the choreographing process. Iana will reveal not only her technique tricks, but also explain her choreographic choices and give some tips on structuring your own dance creations. These principles apply either if you are getting ready for a stage performance, or your next gig!

Ready to get a little weird? This class isn’t a “belly dance class” it’s all about movement/energy/intention/focus and how playing with these different aspects of movement can enhance your dance practice and ability. Prepare to get up to get down. We’ll explore various exercises to find comfort and familiarity within transitions.
 
IANA
Iana Komarnytska is an award-winning dancer and choreographer based in Toronto, Canada, specializing in Middle Eastern and Central Asian dance styles. Over the last few years she has taught and performed in dozens of countries including Germany, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Ukraine, USA, Cyprus, Hungary and others. Iana is a graduate from professional dance program of York University, as well as winner of Star Bellydancer Canada 2014 Competition, and International Dance Competition Cairo by Cyprus 2015.
 
ANYA
Anya hails from Edmonton, Alberta where she teaches classes and performs regularly throughout the province. She specializes in working with dancers in unconventional ways to help them become the best dancers they can be; as a performer, she offers emotive and evocative performances that are true to the roots of this dance. She is passionate about the transformative power of Middle Eastern Dance and Music and the complete joy it brings to ones soul.

New Session & New Bellydance Classes at Mahasti in Hamilton, ON

If you’re looking to try a choreography class the next session will start Monday June 26th.

We always offer 50% off to students.  We recommend regular classes for dancers 12 & up.  And we offer up to 50% off your first class card.

We have some exciting drop in classes starting soon.  Thursday night will switch over to 2 drop in classes from Thurs June 29th.  If you have lots of vacation time, have a hectic schedule, suffer from an excessive amount of friends, try our drop in schedule.  You can attend as much or as little as you like.  As ever you have 3 months (from the day of purchase) to use up your class card.  So if you purchase your class card on June 7th it’s good until September 7th.

We are performing at Aga Khan Museum in Toronto this week so there is no class Wed June 21st or Sat June 24th.  We are open for the long weekend & all other days.

We’re located in downtown Hamilton & our building has a parking lot for dancer use. All 4 classes are drop in lessons.  You’re welcome to take all 4 or just drop in once.

Bollywood is back! Suitable for beginners and up, this class presents the style of dance seen in Indian cinema. The dance is cardio-driven, joyful, and often silly, with an emphasis on the fun of dancing together and telling a story through song. Movements are presented from the ground up with modifications offered for all levels, from total beginners to advanced dancers alike! You’ll learn gestures, meaning, and lyrics as we learn a short choreography to pull all these elements together in an expressive dance. Warning: Laughter may ensue!

Kids Bellydance Class

Not just for mommies & daughter’s but any care-giver & child.

Learn Bellydance while having fun together Saturday mornings 10-10:30AM.

We recommend this class for kids 3-10 but if your child is a little younger or a little older & would enjoy the experience you’re welcome to come along. 1 drop in class is $10 (including taxes). 4 classes are $30 (including taxes).

We start with a short warm-up then move on to exercises & games to develop skill, posture, range of motion, flexibility or technique. Each class we also explore a bit of choreography.

If you have an older child, we recommend regular Bellydance classes. We offer 50% regular prices for full-time students buying regular class cards.

This Sunday join us for an Intro to Lebanese workshop 10-11:10 with Star Bellydancer Canada 2015 Peggy. After Bellydance stay for Bollywood with Faith! She’ll be teaching technique from 11-1 and then choreography from 2-4.

Parking is free at the rear of the studio (any spot but 3 or 10) & surrounding side streets.

No experience necessary for either workshop.

We have a full kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, etc on site if you wish to bring your lunch or there are nearby 1 minute walking-distance dining options such as Tim Norton’s & Dennigers in addition to convenience stores.

Lebanese Bellydance 101 – Pay What You Can Karma Workshop

Join Star Bellydance of Canada 2015 as she shares “Lebanese Bellydance 101” for our monthly installment of Pay What You Can Workshops.

In July we raised $230 for Sacha Hamilton.
In August we raised $120 for Essential Aid and Family Services of Ontario inc.
We have raised $1310 for our community since April. Be part of it, in September join us to raise money for Food4Kids.

A bit about Food4Kids
It was assessed 1,500 children in Hamilton and 400 children in Halton were going without food each and every weekend. A program model was developed with a focus on 3 distinct areas:

1)Food provided to children at-risk would be healthy

2)Each child in the home would receive their own food package, to ensure nourishment of all children in the home

3) The program model would ensure a non-stigmatizing process of food distribution to participants

Today, 1335 healthy food packages are distributed in 89 schools throughout Hamilton and Halton.

 

Bollywood with Faith in Hamilton

We are thrilled to announce Faith will be sharing Bollywood dance with us in Hamilton at Mahasti – The Bellydance Emporium. 1 West Ave S, Suite 300, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Faith is a gifted, fun & well-trained instructor.  Her background in fitness makes her a well-educated, safe & efficient teacher.  She is a gem in our local scene.

Take 1 or all 6 workshops with her this fall.  Never taken Bollywood dance classes before? No problem! The first 2 hours will break down the technique & nuances of Bollywood, the 2nd 2 hour workshop will string it together in a dance.

Each day will focus on a different Bollywood style.  Join us Sunday September 18th, October 16th & November 13th for some joyous education & celebration.

Our August session will begin on the 2nd.  By demand we’re bringing back “Top 40 Bellydance” & by request we’re introducing kids classes on Saturdays.

We want to serve all of the Hamilton community! Kids classes will be open to children 3-7 as well as their caregivers. Bellydance is a social dance suitable for both girls & boys. At this young age, we will be focusing mostly on basic dance technique, learning dance class etiquette & fun! Parents & caregivers are encouraged to stay & welcome to participate if they desire. The first class will be Saturday, August 6th.

$10 drop in or 4 classes for $30 per child. $15 drop in $45 for 4 classes for 2 siblings.
