Improvisation Intensive

A full day of improvisation training. No experience necessary. This intensive will not be teaching technique. All levels & styles are welcome!

DAY 1

TUNE
10-11:15 – welcoming and tuning (using improv to connect to yourself and the group)
Eshe (me) will start with a warm up to awaken the body. We’ll use a series of activities drawn from writing, acting and dance to get moving. You’ll be given ideas to embark from or suggested parameters or props but the freedom to journey as you please. We’ll also start to explore collaboration with group activities. We’ll play with both leading and following, structured and unstructured creation. We’ll talk about motivation & inspiration as well. This will be a gentle and fun introduction to the day.

EXPLORE
11:30- 12:45
Explore images and impulses (using external inspiration as a source for improvised movement)
Alyssa Nedich of Alyssa Nedich Choreography is an imaginative powerhouse & gives whimsical, enlightening and encouraging instruction. We’ll start to go deeper into concepts of improvisation. She has a lot of gifts & resources to share with you. I have personally grown a lot from being in her improvisation classes.

GENERATE
1:30-2:45
Exploring improv as a vehicle for choreography (using improv to generate set material)
Lisa Ann Emmons of Aeris Körper will take us further & end the day with concepts to encapsulate your creation. How can we make play into presentation or performance? How do we take freestyle & mould it? On a personal note Mahasti – The Bellydance Emporium dancers have been exploring with Lisa this year & have brought back rave reviews. I’m really excited to have her sharing with us at the studio!
